The Fortunes and Misfortunes of the Famous Moll Flanders is a novel published in1722by Daniel Defoe .
Moll’s mother is a convict in Newgate Prison , who is granted leave due to her pregnancy. As soon as she is born, Moll is raised by a foster mother and her mother is deported to America, where they are later reunited. She later goes to work as a maid for a family, and is courted by her two sons. One of them, her eldest, seduces her, but convinces her to marry her youngest. When he dies, Moll leaves her children in the company of her in-laws, and begins to pose as a rich widow, hoping to find a husband who will protect her and give her security.
